Where the Money Goes

+90% of your donation is put towards researching for the prevention and cure of Alzheimer's & ALS

We seek to maximize your donations by funding some of the most promising research in the world. We are constantly re-evaluating where your donations go, with the goal of having a meaningful impact on the prevention and cure of Alzheimer's and ALS. When seeking research partners, it was important to us to find a lab that had an open environment for researchers across all major neurodegenerative diseases to collaborate. Our belief is that there are potential links between the neurodegenerative diseases and a method of research implemented by an Alzheimer's specialist that might provide useful insight to an ALS specialist. It is rare to find such cross-discipline collaboration.

95% of all donations are currently funding research projects at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, led by Dr Brad Hyman. Dr. Hyman oversees the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND) lab and has a h-index of 142 (77,782 citations). H-index is the most widely used metric for research productivity and impact.  An h-index of 140+ in a Neuroscientific field corresponds one of the top researchers worldwide. Brad Hyman has been awarded the Potamkin Prize and the Alzheimer’s Association Pioneer Award.

The MIND lab was created with the idea of fostering advances by facilitating the sharing of ideas and methods. For each of the four major neurodegenerative diseases (i.e., Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, and ALS), clinical trials have started based on work being done at MIND, with numerous others in the development stage. Many of the key findings in neurodegenerative disease are from MIND. SOD1, the most common mutation associated with ALS was identified at MIND. MIND researchers had a critical role in identifying every one of the Alzheimer’s genes that has been found except for ApoE.

MIND attracts some of the world's top talent and sort after researchers. To read more about their latest research, please visit www.mghmind.org

U.S. News & World Report, which provides the definitive rankings for hospitals, ranked Massachusetts General Hospital #3 for Neurology & Neurosurgery in the 2017-2018 rankings.
